Leave Beach Better
Leave It Better: YUM in Action
Gunner, Maeven, and Roya spend part of their summer vacation on the East Coast.
As a way to “thank the beach” for an awesome time, they began a tradition to clean the sand before they head back home.
Their first year they pulled about 16 lbs of trash.
Their second year, they recruited two friends and nearly doubled their efforts - collecting almost 30 lbs of plastic bottle caps, food wrappers, and other garbage.
Our Interview
Inlight: What does “Leave it Better” mean to you?
Maeven: It means making something better than when you found it.
Inlight: Why did you choose “Leave it Better” for your vacation Care Plan?
Maeven: Where we go is so nice. You actually don’t see much trash. You have to look for it, but once you look it’s all over the place. It was hidden in bushes and buried. We kinda felt like we needed to look harder because it’s there and it’s not going anywhere without eyes that care.
Inlight: What supplies did you have with you?
Maeven: We had gloves and a bag. That’s all it took!
Inlight: How did you recruit two more friends?
Maeven: We just asked them. They were excited to help out. All it took was us asking and they showed up to be a part of it.
Inlight: Great job. We can’t wait to see how much impact you make next year!
