It’s a noun that means the ability to bounce back after challenges and tough times. Everyone faces struggles when they are growing up. A myth about resilience is that you can’t let anything bother you, but the opposite is true. Resilience is about how we deal with what we can control, keep our head up, and move forward from these experiences with a new inner strength. It is especially important to share these feelings with at least one safe, nurturing person because resilience grows with supportive relationships.

    Competence is about knowing how to handle stressful situations.

    Confidence is about feeling capable to handle a situation.

    Connection is about having someone to talk to that you trust.

    Character is about having a strong values compass and sticking to it.

    Coping is about having tools that reduce stress.

    Control is about having a choice and making decisions that have impactful results.

  • A great way to build resilience is to have a plan. But not any plan. Make plans that have realistic milestones so that you can achieve each step to the plan.

  • A great tip to involve others is to practice friendship and connection. Positive relationships are important. Listening to each other is the number one tip to creating a positive connection. Try summarizing what your friend just told you to practice really being there.
