What does it mean to '“leave it better?”

You could simply sum up that “leave it better” means to have a positive impact on the places and people we touch.

Have you ever wondered what mark you left behind and if it was better than how you found it?  Let that sink in for a minute.

Do you think that you have an influence over our world? We think you do - and, that is a pretty cool superpower.

The Right Behavior

There are many reasons why our behavior is linked to how we can “leave it better,” and it’s important to recognize how our actions are linked to each other as well as to our future.

We may have a desire to help but it is very normal not to know where to start.  It can seem overwhelming to help everyone and everything. That is why Leave it Better is about taking small steps by making sure you left a good vibe in your classroom, your bed made at home, or picked up a piece of trash on the street. That’s how we create a butterfly effect which is a fun way of saying that the biggest change happens from the small acts of a single person or that a butterfly can flutter its wings over a flower in China and cause a hurricane in the Caribbean.

Our values can influence our thoughts, feelings and actions and help us to develop the behavior to “leave it better.” How does the value effort influence your behavior to leave it better?

Is effort contagious?

Think about this situation. A classmate has no one to sit with at lunch.

What effort does it take for you to leave the lunchroom better?

What sort of effort does the classmate need to offer back to leave it better?

Does effort spread to all of us in anyway - even if we didn’t participate in that situation - to have leave it better elsewhere?
